Streams on Cobblestones

The meandering road of a slightly introverted mind. Normally witty. At turns morbid and cheerful. A little weird. Have fun.

Exam De-Kompression: had a semi-enjoyable time finishing Kouri and Arashi's X fic - Atropos - fic marathon! Took me days to finish and spent five hours for the last fourteen chapters. If you can find a really good long fic (like 39 chps), it's almost as good as an anime marathon. Except i realise there's kind of a line your shouldn't cross in terms of hours spent, cause after that you just feel tired and the fic gets draggy altho' it's really quite exciting and funni...got that floaty feelin' now...

really appreciate the Fuuma there, and Kakyou is really starting to remind me of fandom-Squall - interesting use of villans though, and really good dialogue - it as funni and serious, sad and happy at different times. The aftermath had a numb not-there feelin' (or that could be just me not sleeping) that was really sad without having to be all weepy. But best of all, the psychology of no less than five or more characters in the series was unravelled and it was harder to follow than all the revision i've ever done...my brain feels like it's in knots...

gah! nitemare exam - you know when you know you memorised the answer like 8 hrs ago, but now you can't recall what the fecking hell it was - yeah, i think i blew a few marks on that. And the MCQs were like mini-tutorial discussion questions - or required roughly the same amount of brainpower and time to think through - you know, the kind you answer but at the end you can't walk away feelin' 100% you are right. Hate those. Had two nice long questions on web design though, so just let the ink flowed on those. But overall i figure i got away okay - one of the questions wanted a design perspective on, of all things, the Recruit Section of the Straits Times, which i don't read often, but did that morning because i was bored. That's the second high coincidental wiggy thing to happen in the recruit section.

But it's finally over - so i went out, bought food (it always helps), and found to my delight, three new vols of Demon King, Heart and Hana Yori Dango at Clementi's Comics Connection - probably the last time i'll visit the place *wipes away a tear*

So, more nonsense from Demon King's protagonist - don't you just love when that smug "yeah, i know...but i did it anyway cause i could, nyah" face that only the really powerful and childish could pull off. Yep, lotsa laughs. Though that dog scene was just *shudder* wrong, it was slightly funni at the end but i sooo didn't need to see that. Got hints that the Beggar Sect's rep seem to be possessed. And that Snake feller really is a schizophreniac! I can so identify with him now!...though, i still wanna see more of the Underworld King tossing stamps on the hero's head. Sad that the Huashan old feller got possessed and killed his disciple - wonder how the hero's gonna react to that...

Heart - more humour, more sap. Haven't read HYD vol yet - but it look like the Yuuki/Soujiro sc got cut in the middle! Am not entertaining thoughts of reading the amnesia fiasco.

Better news! Heard HanaKimi 20 jap ver is out!

can't decide if reading (one of the best) fics (i've found) will revising is a good idea - but it does generate a nice atmosphere - makes the revision less monotonous cause i can "reward" myself after each chapter (or every four slides...)

think i won't go with the idea of a separate manga/anime blog - cos if i take away manga and anime from my entries, what's there left to write about, ne?

am kinda worried about tomorrow - the stuff for this this module is so fragmented - there's so many possible tinsy-tiny areas to ask on, i've given up trying to memorise(except the really impt-sounding ones) and just let it all stew in my head and hope that when the time comes i can dredge stuff back up again, or come up with a reasonably crappy equivalent...gotta go sleep by six so i can function for the exam, ugh, but i have a bad feeling i can't because my brain's running too fast...knew there was a reason why i support overnight revision...

on a happy note, was at the marketing chap on independent marketing variables and how culture can skew a marketing campaign. So decided to check up on some marketing faux pas - spent about half-an-hour laughing - great stress reliever, but i think it messed up the defragmenting process and i lost some stuff...

my mind feels like stew...more stew-ish then prior exam revisions - it feels like I'm de-fragmenting my brain cells or somthing, ugh

Monday, April 28

Saw the advert for animatrix on AXN - pwaaah! Was especially taken with the scene when she fell all the way down and landed in one of the mostest shuai4 fashion i've ever seen...but wah! dun wanna watch dreamcatcher, ugh.

seen the venue for Mac Cosplay 2003 - apparantly it's gonna include more than just cosplay so the venue is pretty big, and slighly public dare i say - but wow! it a great place *shining eyes* - lots of nice scenes and backdrops and they have one of those cool wall tvs things - makes me wish we had a category for anime music videos. Can't wait for Dec.

revision-wise, ack, have gotten to know chps 1 - 4 really well, chps 5 - 6 okay okay, but the rest of the chps haven't touched yet. Lucky the exam is in the evening....

Friday, April 25

have given up having pics on my blog since all the free servers i'm on don't support remote linking - so in process of converting my Tsubaki/Tonami blog layout to a website one...kinda sad because it would have looked really nice for a blog. Now also in mood for the Kazuma/Tsubasa layout which is the pairing i adore most in KKnJ. Gah, remembered my beloved Escaflowne double layout got abandoned in my old laptop, sad...but feelin' a bit happy now because for the past few days seemed to have lost all interest in layouts and photoshop...now at least got some motivation...funny how it always comes round only during exam time....

Read my first Gohou Drug fic todae - it's twice as mind-boggling as the manga - wah, but it has a similar mysterious quality...but mind-boggling...phew!

Demon King manga is getting more shonen on me - seems to be set in period china with all the wudang, shaolin and gai4 bang1 (yet it has some references to Japan, hmm). The language always gets me laughing, but it seems the humour is lessening...that or i just like the sight of the underworld king tossing stamps on the hero's head, har har...

Go me, read chp 2 of the e-comm notes at the library todae - next to two cute kids - tho' later I changed my mind a little. The older girl was nice and quiet but her younger brother was everywhere from standing on arm-rests to hitting the sofa back so it would make the fire-extinguisher chime against the wall. And you couldn't fault their mom cause she did rein the boy in like every two min, but he simply moved on to something else to do. Really opened my eyes more to parenting. Tho' the kid was really cute, even while apologising sweetly after his knee struck my shoulder, but I was thinking to myself that if I ever have kids, I'll probably be Bad Cop - or enroll them in some sports or taekwondo course so they'll learn self-defense and be healthy - but more importantly, tire the hyperactive wee devils out, heheh...*evil grin*

wai! Finally read a good Fruba fic! Based on the premise that Momo-chan grows up and discovers her brother - Secrets of the Sohmas by Aishuu. Lots of good tension and subtly developes from the manga storyline - Akito croaks and the story moves on! Ha! Dialogue's great! Fair bit of angst but constructive angst, not mindless make-the-audience-weep-for-fun angst. Aso good characterisation on how Yuki-tachi are like after like ten years...

Haha~ read a manga today - i think the chinese title is Demon King (Mo2 Di4) - a new one published by Chuang Yi. Although it's slightly larger than a tankoubon, the art and lettering looks a lot like those HK comics - so i was expecting some wuxia kinda art. Well, it was, but it was a pleasant surprise to find that the chinese is simple and the language is quite hilarious - it is like a combination between Wee Tian Beng's comedy art and Watanabe's Violinist of Hameln series. Sure, the hero has his share of dashing shots - but he pretty dumb too - like how his cantankerous superior in the Underworld has an endless magic supply of stamps to hurl at his head for not completely his work. When he and Cereberus (yeah, the three-headed dog) got into an argument, his elderly superior came out and railed at him for not working but yapping away with the kan1 men2 gou3. Poor Cereberus.

This main protagonist's got that same anti-hero quality of Hamel and can be pretty "evil" to others. Apparently he died a very powerful warrior and became citizen of a prison in hell - but he defeated all the 50 fighters who challenged him in the underworld and was so powerful the prison could not hold him, so some council of elders put a seal on his power. So now he's gotta work like crazy as a shinigami for one of the underworld kings - a really funny old guy who's always bullying him by tossing stamps of various sizes on his head.

Definitely gonna follow this one because it seems to hint he's got some really powerful moves locked away...monsters are suitably monster-like tho' not nearly as slimy as the ones in He is Werewolf King or Kamikaze - but they come close... Oh, talking about gross - it seems the characters in this series sweat a lot like the ones in VoH as well - but not so much thankfully.

Was laughing to myself on the bus - been a long time since that happened - probably read too much psychotic manga (Fruba and KKnJ) or sappy feel-good ones (HanaKimi). This one is refreshing - tho the only reason i tried it was because the cover art looked promising - dark, swords, wuxia-like, big gravity-defying hair (reminds me of Kurikara, Seiryuu, Sukazu and Touda in Yami no Matsuei)

last exam on 29th - now that the digital media exam is over am dreading the e-commerce one - there is really a lot to memorise, wah!

Tuesday, April 22

Gah! The multimedia text is hard to read! Dun feel happy reading - not structured clear enuff for me - got terribly lost in the first half of chapter 6. Feel pretty cynical after reading also *pout* ok ok, think manga...fanfics...think i'm a creature of habit - despite all that stuff we studies about change (in IF4205 and in CS4264 and wherever else) i like familiar things - explains why I've read and re-read a fav fanfic again almost every other day just cos it relaxes me...

Sunday, April 20

am printing the lect notes for the digital media module...all eight slides. *snerk*well, ok, if you trim off the extras like title slides and non-exam slides...Am amused becos still can't decide between e-commerce module (with its thirteen "min-40-slides-per-lect" lectures) or the digital media module...Ade so sicko...Having a hard time studying for the digital media model - am getting Bad Flashback...but dun worry, am coping with lots of chocolate and manga....speaking of manga...

WAI! HANAKIMI 20 is coming soon! After exams....after exams....this is called the Adeline Self-Delusion Method.

Wrote a letter to an old friend in Canada...in March, and another postcard on April 3....Mailed todae. Bad Adeline.

Saturday, April 19

gah! won't work! just read a pretty in-depth analysis of what happened at the Rainbow Bridge and what Subaru's Wish was. Just doesn't fit the song, damn...

spent the last hour getting brain-washed by DreamZ FM's Should I stay and am getting hooked on a Subaru layout - in the beginning I felt the song's too light for The Seishirou Bet. Actually, yeah, TB/X's mood is still too depressing but can't think of any other anime which would fit - can't stand depressing stuff so not a lotta options.

Cheers! have spent the last hour incorporating the first few e-commerce slides with the reading - but then got stuck because of Should I stay (Damn, these guys sound good!) and because the lect slides and the readings dun gel. How come got two frameworks for EC one? Screwing me up... but at least got the first step...

Hey, guess what! Found out that I sleep better without air-conditioning - it feels better waking up to a cool breeze. Maybe cos the weather's been cooler recently...

My air-con stayed repaired for all of two days, but now it's croaked....must be something in my DNA that causes negative reactions in surrounding technology. Wah, how to survive without this critical factor of my natural habitat?

Wednesday, April 16

gah, still stuck at the intro lecture notes...

Adeline's Temptations list:
= = sleeping my time away
= = Fruits Basket anime - i know i was disppointed by dark undertones in the manga, but the anime looks funni!
= = or fooling around with Bryce. Wah, so much i still dun know - this is the part of the learning curve where Ade usually get kicked off...i think is better to focus on the revision rather than go and learn the Bryce stuff, ne? Tho' had a lot of fun making a bunch of cafe tables and trees on a plane of water, teehee. But still too poor-quality to put them up at my website, scully get laughed off the web.

But it's kinda spooky rendering at night - imagine rendering an empty world when all is silent and dark on your side as well. Sure candidate for some mirror-world Twilight Zone storyline...more precisely it is like opening up a window into your mind/dreams (an idea that a no. of 3D web-galleries have taken up) and i'm one of those who feel the human mind is something unpredictable - don't look too deeply because who knows what lurks in the pitch-dark corners of our minds? I mean, that's where nightmares come from, right? When the external stimuli from the day coalescences into some weird temporary place at night.

Have a werid thing goin' on with Fruits Basket - i can't seem to decide if i like it or not - sometimes i pick at all the faults i can find - but other times the little kids are really cute! And not a small no. of the grown-ups as well...and it's funni!

Tuesday, April 15

I know i should be revising...i've read the intro chapter notes at least....but then my sis bought for me Bryce 5 and it's sooo fun! It's so satisfying my world domination tendencies...i can't wait to start hunting for material textures *evil laugh* Right now I've oni got a crummy island and three rocks but the program's so cool it makes even my pathetic efforts look good.

Monday, April 14

wai! my ff8 obsession has finally culminated in 2 nice prints of ff8 charas - am in love with the black and white shots - they are intelligent and bring across the characters' personalities really well...

spent 3 back-breaking hours organising, printing and checking the e-commerce notes - damn, there's a lot to read...and it's closed-book! *wail* Let's hope can survive dis one...

also pretty happy todae bcos todea is when i get air-con privileges back!...unless the repariman decides the whole thing is dead and should be carted off....

Sunday, April 13

Hmm, considering that i rarely listen to Mandarin songs, this is the first Chinese group that I listened long enuff to like - DreamZ. Think I'm a little in love with their smooth voices and their harmony, damn, they sound good. Had a laugh over their version of Deng Zhe Ni Hui Lai. But I really like Baby Come Back and Bu Zhi De the most. Did i mention I like their smooth voices and harmony...almost made Violet Haze 4 while listening to Baby Come Back - but the feel wasn't right...though got a hal-baked idea to do a Seifer layout to that song, goes sumthin' like "I've never met a girl like you before" - will leave the gamers to figure which girl he met....Hint: NOT Rinoa. But gotta confirm the lyrics first....

Saturday, April 12

*sigh* One yr older today liao, but dun feel so old leh. I think my mind is still stuck in secondary school mode....have been having many dreams lately, muchly convulated so that I tend to wake up tired and headachy...

ano...Fruits Basket is a little disappointing...there's too strong a mad psychotic presence underlying the whole series in the form of Sohma Akito...Tho' there are cute and sweet moments, but it's pretty depressing overall. Hope Tohru whups Akito over his sadistic sniggering head so the series can get on track....can't help but feel the author had written herself into a dead end. How is the heroine supposed to beat someone who's that important to the rest of the cast? And I know Shigure is planning sumthin' but he seems to be causing as much trouble too. Lots of cute little tots though....

On the relatively up side, have gotten Vol. 15 of Kareshi Kanojyo no Jijou which turned out to be yet another psychological episode - I mean I get it but it's just poor Arima being depressing all over the place and then realising he isn't depressing because he had an abusive childhood, but really because he wants to believe he can luurve somebody. Argh! It's all becoming mind-bendy mushy claptrap! *sob* All I want is a lighthearted funny story....hope Hanakimi comes out soon...KKnJ's art is changing too - more darker tones and semi-visible lines - dream-mode? But it really does reflect second part of the anime pretty well. Was thinking of the violin of the anime while reading the manga....Weird, considering that the anime was done before this part of the manga was created...

last on my list before exam revision is the website for the authors but i'm dragging my feet over that...still haven't play enuff i guess...by that i mean staying in my have-air-con-but-like-no-air-con room, reading manga while not figeting too much so i dun get too sweaty. Sad.....

Sunday, April 6

hmmm, met an old friend today + all the other stuff stewin' in my brain is seriously upsetting my inner balance...

in other news, have finally tried Fruit Basket - kinda funny and nice, but it kinda pales next to HanaKimi and W Juliet for some reason - maybe its too nice...and Yuki is serious thin - like anime Hamel in Violinist of Hameln - 5 inch waist! Altho' am cuious to find out more about the leader of the Sohma clan...

Friday, April 4

wai! finally something to look forward to that is not related to a screen and keyboard! Just read an excerpt from the latest Amelia Peabody mystery! Twins! *sob* makes me feel old liao...remember reading the series when Nefret and Rames were just kids....

feelin' down recently, because my timetable is all screwed up and i'm sleeping in the day and waking up at night and spending the midnight hours getting bored out of my brains...feel my long-awaited hols goin' down the drain....and various other worries too...urgh! Thank goodness for fanfics tho', been dredging up the old favourites to read...
