May got me out to watch the movie Simone today - its philosophizing of technology reminded me strongly of The Matrix but i think the latter is more popular because of the general look of the actors (for sure no one will be cosplaying Viktor Travansky when they can do a Neo or Trinity instead) and the action sequences. But the whole speel about is what we see actually real and how technology can be used for good or evil. Not many people were in the cinema when we watched Simone but i think it cracked us up that he kept doing the Push-the-button-to-make-Simone-talk-to-me thing...the "She's indestructible!" part was also funny...
bought the LotR vcd, so got the player out of my room and hooked it up to the main tv. With my thesis i won't be using it much anyway and it just won't be right to watch The Fellowship of the Ring on my itsy-bitsy screen...and i'd like ti reiterate that Frodo looks absolutely injured in the movie...

kyaaaa!~~~~ a hair-raising few hours when my longing for a new blog layout finally overwhelmed my resistance at doing non-lit-review-related. Sad thing is, i actually had a nice blue Escaflowne one waiting in the wings, made after weeks of re-working it, but in the end i went with a Koucha Ouji layout that i hastily put together after an hour in photoshop and a few hours on blogger tackling the tables code. But now i finally have a kawaii chibi Earl Grey on my blog, yah-hahaha~ *grin*

Who sez I dun exercise?
Today's walkathon started out at Sci Fac with a long group meeting, after which I went to Arts Fac to meet my supervisor. Dropped by the central library to return a book (there was a hold on it and i know how fun it feels to know that book you've been waiting for is returned early) and found out that another book that I was waiting for is ready for collection! So i guess good turns do get rewarded ^_^ ...unfortunately, it was in the Sci Library, so i gamely took the shuttle bus back to Sci to collect the book. However, after i got it i realised only 3% of it was relevant for my thesis, so I returned it and searched for more books on linc. And I found a great one that was only recently returned!...unfortunately, it was at the Arts Library
...a trying search at the main counter and that hastily-constructed shack they call the automatic book return bin proved to be futile. After a brief debate, I dropped by the main shelves anyway since i'm already there. And sitting on the PN2104 - PN5608 shelf was the book I trekked all over to find - The End of Books by Jane Yellowlees Douglas. Heh heh heh! Vic-tho-ree!
hahah! look like my html bumblings have achieved the ability to screw up even Blogger's code! It a curious thing - the edit link for me to edit my post became the link to the BBC article - thus there's no way for me to access the post to edit the html, hmmmmm....
The BBC article on Moomin is

Moomins!
Anyone...ahem, (old enuff to) remember Moonmin Valley stuff? They were these hippo-like characters - i remember having a story book one them once, but i probably got thrown out long ago...I discovered a Snufkin obsession when i read the manga The Violinist of Hameln. For some reason, Snufkin reminds me very much of him - the wanderer, wide-brimmed hat, quiet music beside the campfire type. The low brimmed hat also cut off the top of his eyes - heheh, just like Hiei!
Its makes me feel a curious nostalgia - curious because i can't remember why i makes me feel nostalgic. There's nothing particular that i remember (except maybe one thin story-book). And all I feel is a weird primary school feel that doesn't feel like the usually primary school feel.
Stumbled across a

ok ok, i dedicate my first inter-blog comment to Nurul's free Milo post: "Ahem...*evil laugh* see below"
heheh! went to Kino and Borders with my sis today cos she wanted to buy a 6-cm thick book on networking (that's as much as i could understand from the title) one of those certified textbooks that you study for and afterwards take the certified exam, so you can be a certified network analyst - it's one of her "goals"....anyways, she was late for work, so i nagged her to eat at the nearby BK (not that i like eating that all that much - burgers and mushrooms, especially button mushrooms!, go against my principles in life).
......and we got a free meal (of two burgers *feels faintly ill* ) cos they were doing a survey on the difference between the current chicken burgers they sell, and a new kinda chicken burger! Answered stuff like "what the taste of the bun", etc.
But the really funny ones are:
"How would you rate the look of the burger" (Errr.....)
"How would your rate the taste of the bun" (They all taste the same to me...)
"How would you rate the moistness of the burger" (.....*stifles wild giggling*)
heheh...made me really think about what questions i'm gonna ask for Dr Lim's call for interview questions.
took a nice nap in the afternoon, guzzled some coke, so i was all awake to finally continue with my lit review....then i got a little stuck doing the interview questions, and a bit of the CS4260 project for tomorrow...so now....FINALLY...i can do my lit review ! ! !...
....except I'm blogging instead...PLEASE!..somebody kick me!

reading Red Tea Prince now *guilty* tho' i try to intersperse it with lit reviewing, heheh....sure dun regret my choice because one of the tea prince remind me of chibi Kohaku from CLAMP's Wish! Only thing diff between them is that Kohaku has longer hair on his right, but this tea prince has evenly cut hair on both sides. Yaaahhhh! Soooo cute!!!!
but ok, now that it's Sunday (i.e. the day just before MONDAY) i got my "fighting spirit" back to attack my various assignments, not to mention Mount Lit Review...

Kyaaaa!!! watched Reign of Fire to day with Mee while Dee watched The Bourne Identity. Found the first part rather scary and had less dragons than i anticipated. The post-apocalyptic world also made the dragons seem like aliens rather than dragons...kinda sudden so i didn't get to wear my dragon pendant to the movie ; P
thinking of buying the Red Tea Prince manga from Comic House - its really cheap! like $3 for each book. And there are about 17? That's $51. If i bought from Clementi MRT's bookstore are $5.50 each, it would be $93! Is the extra money worth it for a new set? I think a major reason is also cos i wanna take advantage of the sale - not everyday that happens and i have been eyeing the for a while, its style seems the kind that is content being a happy manga, not one of those angst-filled ones...hmmm *pondering*

Finally started readings online hypertext fictions on Eastgate. At first I oni skimmed some. Saw a nice one co-authored by Joyce called Lasting Image - a nice text on picture short story. It was cool when it finally occurred to me to not oni search around in the text for links, but that the clear shapes on the fuzzy pics where also clickable. I like when i realise something i've been missing, gives me lots of reasons to analyse it to death...it also makes me feel something akin to the sense of discovery i felt when studying literature.
also saw a tiny bit of Sand Loves and HELP on Eastgate, but the one I really liked was What Fits by Adrienne Eisen.
It was really funny but in an enlightening sorta way. It was also direct and i really like her the narrator's thought pattern. Is it because the links are all at the bottom of the page and not in the text - so i could clearly see each node as a single node, not as a node with links stuck in almost every damn sentance? I like it for its sarcasm and how there's that part where Eisen has the narrator acknowledge that she is sarcastic, by making the narrator ask the user...oops! ....reader to like her cos she says nice things.
And I have a bad habit of sticking sticking to a rule about how i clicked on links in hypertexts - like i'll always click the first in the the text that kinda thing. I think it a whole rebel-against-hypertext-theory aspect of me. So although I probably missed dozens of nodes, i ended up back at the title page and the narrator finally dumped Tano and I know why. So cool! Not exactly closure, but it satisfied my small little linear soul. Nyah!

went thru' today whining in my head:
I WAAAAANN~~~~~~~~ TO REEEEEAD THE BOOK ! ~~~~~~~~~
...tho' i just know it gonna be boring after a while - like Lord of the Rings - it was a bit long for me not to start scanning and speed-reading....hope it wears off eventually...

today moious's b-day, so went out wif her friends. but before that caught So Close...later caught the 11.30pm The Bourne Identity. Tho' So Close is nice and cool, i liked the latter better becos it the plot was interesting. Me is very taken with the relationship between Jason/David and Marie. Very interesting speculating what was going thru' each of their minds during their time with each other. But then again it was euqally interesting speculating what went thru' Sue's and Hong's minds. 2 vcds titles to add to my collection, heheh...wanted to read the book too, i found out its a trilogy, but then got some much lit review and assignments to do already...
and yay! got on the dl again, heheh...need all the confidence i can get to get over this thesis thing...

whoa! very very long no type, so this'll be a long, possibly multiple entry...let's see...
Monday
....was the day i went for the ess eye dee thing - majorly interested in tech but op sounded more interesting. Then again, me?, this mountain turtle? abroad, hmmm *second thots* very impressive tho' even passed my working environment survey which was more impt to me then distance or work involved.
wanted to go to NUS after that but they gave us this clunky file thingy, plus i was kinda tense so i had the mother-of-all back aches after the whole thing
Tuesday
...was Stew-in-the-Library day - managed to get quite a few books and readings from the Sci Library. So now the pile on my table has increased significantly. The sad thing is in this whole week, i oni seriously read the reading i printed from the net, which i've been carrying around since last last week...
Wednesday
...was Be-at-2-Places-in-One-Afternoon-Day - ade was a mini-cyclone, dropping off stuff at the huge anime chalet at Pasir Ris at 11 am and then zooming off to Upper Thomson for May-ann's gathering. Very happy that i navigated across GRCs to reach there all by myself, but then got lost looking for the correct unit...
wednesday was also Ade-sets-Things-on-Fire day - getting the bbq fire going was good, but dousing a burning lantern with alcohol thinking it was water...is not. I believe the word used to describe the incident was *classic!* it looked like the flame was dying, then whole lantern went up a la FF9 combo attack. Man, am i going to get it on Monday...
then went back to the Pasir Ris chalet around 10 something...i now know exactly how long and much it takes to take a taxi from upper thomson to pasir ris. it sure was fast tho'....
stayed overnight, getting about four hours of sleep...and yay! angel told me on the phone my Slayers pins have arrived...
Thursday
...was Very-much-in-need-of-a-bath day when the fact that i played with fire the day before caught up with me, felt sticky the majority of the time until my dad agreed to bring stuff over for me so i can stay another night. Lucky!
Spent much of the time laughing our guts out watching Slayers Next...also brought my readings cos i thot the long mrt/bus trip to upper thomson would be better used reading, but well, i got a copy of 8Days...so reading a whole 2.5 readings at the chalet, heheh...
sad to say, the chalet was not much of success, mainly comm members oni. probably because of the timing, people busy with projects around now. but its kinda sad becos our ast chalet was in dec and people complained it was too small *sigh*
Friday
...was convocation-day...boy was i nervous...felt a fold of my hair over my left ear and kept believing that my hat was falling over to the left...even while i was receiving the scroll...heheh...another day for backaches becos that gown was heavy!
Saturday
is Angel's b-day, i think today i'll buy something for her when i go see So Close with may and joon. Also admiring my Slayers pins and wondering if i should keep them safe somewere or actually use them....
Friday, September 6
kyaaa! I bought a coupla tees for my sis's b-day - got a good eye if i do say so myself, hehehe....so and got the keychain repaired as well....

Nokia 8250
KYAAAAAAA!!!!!!~~~~~~~~~
finally bought a handphone today - a nokia 8250, went with the most common plan and the cheapest nice-looking phone...funni but it doesn't make me feel anymore connected...yet....
had an okay time shopping around after that - finally those little pouches and keychains make sense to me, heheh....wanted something purple to go with it but a purple cover is so ugh! so i asked for a cover that is kinda like a slip-on without buttons at the back, and got one that looks ultra-violet under certain lighting but clear otherwise, perfect ^_^ ...the Akira keychain, well~ that one's gotta wait first, i still dunno how's it going yet, heheh
i have a feeling i'll be one of those people that if u ask their hp no, they'll probably have to refer to their hp to find out *sigh* i'm one of those technology laggarts type...plus now i'm gonna buy jeans with big pockets, i think i'll prefer to put it in my pocket, that's why a pouch is out...
but i dun think i give the number out a lot - as in like inform my friends in an email, probably just let it spread naturally....
ok, let's mark this entry shall we? *puts a bold title on top* and we'll see say a few weeks later how it feel about all i've written now?
Monday, September 2
tried the lit review thing while on the MRT - it kinda worked cos the train wasn't crowded...went kinda slow though, because I just had to make notes, and of course not on the book, so i had to balance my book, file and foolscape paper at the same time....
Note to self - ensure route home is always during off-peak, heheh...
kyaa! now that i've finished reading Slam Dunk, i've dug out my Karekano manga - her chibis are really cute!...
*SMACK*
ok ok! lit review, lit review....
phew! finally done with the latest installments of my projects.Think i'll stall on the webvan thing to finally get cracking on my lit review....
And~~~ i finally finished reading the slam dunk manga! The ending was so cool! Wowee! I like how he illustrated the final seconds with no dialogue at all, you can really sense the speed of it. It's got real oomph! compared to say YYH's ending tho' it was nice as well...but what happened to that gigantic player? did i miss him in vol 27? and the guy with the really small eyes and thin lips, whois he?
feel, kinda sad now that it's over...bah! i get this symptom with every series i finish, but especially so cos the team shohoku's all split up cos some graduated, etc.*wail* it's like every year will have a different composition of team members. Now i finally understand all those old-team-members-miraculously-enter-the-same-university fics. The last bit of the manga was quite well done also, it was quite sweet with sakuragi sitting on the beach. You know, i think he may have a real chance with the Haruko thing...ok, gonna hunt up an Hana/Haru/Ru ficcy now, bye!
...oh, Sendoh didn't cut his hair after all, maybe oni in the anime?...hmmmm~~~~~........
