Streams on Cobblestones

The meandering road of a slightly introverted mind. Normally witty. At turns morbid and cheerful. A little weird. Have fun.

Just went to the website for The League of extraordinary Gentlemen. Pwah!~ Big names man, not only the actors (Sean Connery! Nikita!) but the characters as well. Almost choked when I saw Dorian Grey - Townsend back for another round of immortality - and somehow the real vamp Mina is looking healthier than he is...Got to good giggle imagining all of them jostling for screen-time. Was curious why JTR was not there, but I guess since you've already got Hyde. Hope this one doesn't turn out like The Avengers. Pity it's only gonna come out on 14 Aug. Oh well, it'd get here soon enuff...

another weird dream (guess most dreams are weird...)

starts out with me walking along a long room with a turning to the left at the end. The atmosphere is like the old wet market we used to have at Chai Chee (tall ceiling, damp, slightly grimy and dark). Some people were walking with me, but since the room was big, they walking pretty far away from me. It was scary as we approached the end because I distinctly saw the shadow of a person being swallowed by a creature with a great many sharp teeth. Naturally, I leapt out of the way and "evaded" that fate in my dream, and continued walking around the U-shaped bend...only to hear someone say "You should have chosen the other way."

I get the impression that I was one of the few that "evaded" the monster for around the bend, I saw a group of people holding colourful helium-filled balloons. It gets foggy around here, but I saw a big window and outside was a wonderful delta landscape or a beach landcape. It was meant to be a new world, to replace the mad one we have now. Peaceful and beautiful in ways ours lacks sometimes. But it was a world with only a few people, the people I saw holding the balloons.

Before I could approach them, I saw more people walking towards us and was quite speechless to see that they were semi-transparent and were not responsive to my attempts to speak with them. (Yep, they looked a lot like ghosts, eek, but they seemed, if you pardon the pun, lifeless and dull) One of the non-transparent people (the ones with the balloons) informed me that the "monster" was like a merry-go-round machine that admitted some and kept out others so that only a few made it in every time. Thus, if I had chosen to be eaten, I would have remained myself in the real world.

The dream wasn't that scary because one the people there told me that eventually everyone's gonna come over and that we have to be there to guide them when they do. So the dream ended on a rather forward-looking note.

Couldn't remember if there was anyone familiar I saw in my dream. I did feel like I was supposed to remember some of them though.

See what you get for sleeping at 8 am and waking at 4 pm.

hahar, just took a test (yes, another one!) and got....

You're Turkey!
You have a good deal of history behind you, both good and bad, but through it all, you've become a leader among your friends. You have an uncanny ability to make friends with people who hate each other, though sometimes you just hate them instead. Surprisingly fickle, you keep a good balance in your life between religion and humanism, but most people think you're fanatical anyway. You're Istanbul, you're Constantinople.

The funni thing is, if i didn't choose "Alcohol" as a threat to society, but chose "Long-haired guys" instead, I would have got...

You're Singapore!
You're small but well-built and people are a little afraid of you.
You might even walk with a cane that people find somewhat menacing,
rather than seeing it as an aid to your mobility. You like an urban lifestyle,
with little time for nature or the more rural pleasures of life. This
fast-paced lifestyle suits you, and you wish everyone around you would just
shape up.

seven freaking aye am - this is ade sooo screwing up her sleeping schedule again...

have had to de-yolk close to 80 innocent eggs recently when my mom wanted to practice her kueh lapis (?) not once but three times. Erk. Thank goodness I didn't have to do the layering.

happy! got my hands on Elizabeth Peters' Lion in the Valley for $7. Seems even the inestimable Amelia Peabody is not immune to the I-solve-confounding-murder-mysteries-but-obvious-romantic-signals-just-fly-over-my-head dense-shoujo syndrome. Ramses is so kawaii! Wanna go find the earlier books now, they're even funnier...may break a few laws to read Children of the Storm - twin chibi-Ramses-es!

what warning label are you?

You are probably branded as the 'Oddball' among your group of friends.
You are obsessed with the paranormal and anything that's weird and stands out, even if it's completely useless.
You often get strange looks thrown your way (like the time you dressed up as a chicken just for the hell of it).
You don't try to be eccentric, but somehow you just end up being that way.
However, you don't mind because you're just being yourself and having fun doing that.

watched Charlie's Angels today - no much plot and puns all over but pretty nice (and loud) explosions and moves. Although they laughed an awful lot. Overall a lot like Vin Diesel's Triple X, and an insanely funny ex-villan, the only part that really surprised me. The Alex's dad part was hilarious too. Would say is an improvement. And Demi Moore, wow.

Friday, June 20

Had a very intense dream this morning (No, not that kind of dream, you hentai...). Basically it involved me saying yes, but I hesitated instead until the opportunity to say it slipped away. It was a very intense dream because I knew I was dreaming and I knew I could agree without much consequences (and I really wanted to say yes) but maybe some contrary part of me just dug its heels in. Even later, in the awkward silence, I really wanted to agree, even if belatedly, but I stood twisting my fingers together (I keep seeing two parallel red lines). I dreamt of indecision.

Ok, i'll admit it. I'm ill.

Filling up applications give me the worst migraines and that makes me irritable and makes me type slower than a comatose turtle. It's gotten to a stage where I can only fill in an application by blasting my music, playing with my layouts, and telling myself I'm only typing a little bit in that minimised Microsoft document in the corner (Read: job application).

I've got nothing against getting a job, but how many damnned times must I keeping re-typing my results, particulars, etc? I've not applied for many jobs, mostly civil ones, but I've stated my academic history in at least three different formats, argghhhhh! What happened to all those forms we filled when we entered university? Sometimes I wish there was a Big Brother keeping tabs on all we do, if only to spare us all the headaches of filling in info again and again.

Ok, I'll just get back to my music, web layout, Bryce (yay!) and that document in the corner which I can't remember what for...

Ever heard the phrase "talking himself out of trouble"? - bestest example I ever saw was in this evening's TCS tv drama, the one with all the con-people. Pwah! A classic example of fast talking and white-lying that can turn east into west. Gotta appreciate her quick wits. Plus when you consider the script...that actress probably had to memorise whole consecutive paragraphs of lines. Pwah!

In other news, after trying a dozen layouts over six months, have finally got a layout that looks decent enuff. Managed to do that background grid thingy! That's me, others learn in six min, I take six months, heh. I do worry that it is too gloomy though. Prospective employers may be looking at it...which is why I am in such hurry to change my (kawaii widdle cutieee) Shin layout. Whois gonna believe that I can be a serious worker if my website's got at least ten pictures of a (kawaii widdle cutiee) blond toddler on it?!

Watch Boomtown on AXN!

Like it because seemed a little like hyperfiction (don't run away yet...)and managed to fufill the promise in using videos to follow various threads at different points in the plot line. Altho' there is still the authorial control in which video comes first and what is shown (like how the little girl is suddenly shown to recall the killer), the fragmented story-telling by following the perspectives of various charas in the story still required the audience to have to remember a whole lot before the pay-off is apparent.

There is also the minor-subplots (or even just small suspenses of each charas) that somehow get resolved in the telling. Choice is a strong theme - and the sadness of a choice not taken is shown by various perspectives. Like how the detective Fearless fired into the air, causing the Cantrell who was scaling the wall to fall to his death. The saddest was how the second last clip kinda ran backwards to the choice that Cantrell made that led to his death. Also made good use of the medium running the video backwards to show that it was a flashback - but also made the story very sad because the flashback also showed how inreversible and final death is.

Other parts I liked was how with the death of Cantrell, it will never come to light that Tom(?) actually dropped the gun in the river, as opposed to his statement that Cantrell threw the gun. Also like how just after the perspective of the older cop's bitterness towards old friend, Joel's supposed coldness towards their friendship is later followed by a clip that showed Joel's family problems, leading to his lack of patience and time.

The fragmented story-telling also gives the charas a more powerful and in-depth characterisation. Like you'd think that since reporter Andreas is sleeping with that politician guy, she's a pretty bad person. But actually, when she approached Cantrell's distraught grandfather, his look of dazed shock moved her so that she walked on without trying to get a story from him. The fact that another chara Teresa (whois clip was just before) was looking on in approval, seems to signify a passing on of perspectives. There's a tension there that is something which my meagre brain-cells cannot comprehend, but which really makes you think about what the heck it is trying to do. Wow.

Best of what I liked was the surprise that even with the added burden on the memory of the audience, the story still managed to convey a coherent message of the suspense and finality of choice/fate. I'm probably wrong, but it seems to be a little close to what hyperfiction is trying to do, just that with video, it seems easier to get the message. Of cos, little control to the point the audience can oni decide whether to watch or not to, but still cool.

The acting is also pretty solid, as is the script and video angles. And how a single event is portrayed from different angles (really, some people see some thing that others' don't) by following the perspectives of different people is just so mind-blowing. It just makes you think, you know? Well, of course, you're gonna need some patience trying to understand but judging from this ep, the payoff is definitely worth it.

Watch watch watch - it's such a different feel from most dramas that tell you everything in easy to digest storylines - not that they are bad, but this is new fun stuff...

Monday, June 16

Whoa, too much ogling at the RO charas because I just had a dream with the longest list of characters

1) Some cute guy with long white hair - ok the general impression was that he's supposed to be cute

2) More guys (cute and otherwise)

3) One flirtatious mermaid (saw Daryl Hannah on TV yesterday)- you've never heard a sparkling underwater laugh until you've heard it in your dreams. For some reason she was in dire straits (heh) trpped in an oven (hah! )full of water.

4) Styx and Joey from that sitcom Blossom - the former suddenly appeared to replace a dancer who was sixty-five years old

5) Some girl that looked like a Jap/Korean drama star - how did I know? She was weeping after some guy who was also all angst-filled, gah

6) They were all journeying to some point (a grand meeting/battle of sorts - Ragnarok, the final battle?) and met up along the way - it was snowing and there was ice under the bridge

7) The weirdest thing - the whole dream was framed in Windows Media Player - when Styx was dancing, I played-backed and was confused when the dream/show carried on - Dream-Ade promptly concluded that it was because the software was lagging. Doh.

8) I know I'm forgetting another major thread - probably another rabu-rabu one...

Ade's not a gamer but these Ragnarok Online characters wallpapers are just too cute for words! Eeeeeee! I wonder if anyone tried cosplaying them? The Wizard looks the best to me, but the wallpaper full of chibis is just soo cuuuute!

Sunday, June 15

Yay! Masterminded my first batch of cookies! Everything was fine until I realised the dough was so soft, and I mean one-touch-equals-dent kind of soft, that even cupping the cookie was really difficult. Luckily my mom lent a much-needed hand and showed me that it could be done, and helped me keep an eye on the oven. Phew!

Realised the dough had to be soft because it was those melt-in-your-mouth kind of cookies. ^_^ They passed the taste test (I ate a few yesterday and I'm still alive, har har...) but the real test was when my sis hijacked a whole container of them to her room. Heheh, now I wanna try more!

But the real fun was not in re-attaching the dough bunny ears which got stuck inside the cookie cutter, or handling dough like it was plastacine, it's because baking is always a time when me and my mom can laugh at ourselves and have nice long talks into the a.m.

It's also really weird how that day turned out. I had actually started out craving to make (of all things...) a paper-mache bowl. Reasons are simple:

1) I really adore the small procelain/clay round ones they sell at the $1.99 shops...
2) ...but could never buy one because I have no space for them and they are likely to get broken.
3) So I wanted to to make an unbreakable one - plus I get to decorate it!
4) Aaaaand I got all that nicely cut up newspaper leftover from making my Xelloss staff.

Then somewhere along the way, it morphed into a Let's make cookies! mood. Hmmm...

Hey~ Fri the 13th!

Your Brain Usage Profile
From Mind Media

Auditory : 52%
Visual : 47%
Left : 44%
Right : 55%

Adeline Tan, you are moderately right-hemisphere dominant and have even preferences between auditory and visual processing, traits that might make people perceive you as "slightly off balance."

You are most likely to be slightly disorganized, a "dreamer" and a person who focuses more on the end result than the immediate task at hand. You are creative and spontaneous if somewhat lacking in direction and focus. You are a learner who is generally patient and a person for whom time is an ally, not an enemy.

You are more passionate than most people with regard to life and learning and recognize your own intuitive abilities. You have sufficient goal-direction to satisfy yourself and guarantee success without being or feeling driven. You are willing to be reflective about yourself and others without getting lost in rumination.

The balance of your sensory modes allows for both learning and expressive capabilities achieved by few. You are active and "seeing" while retaining an equally strong propensity for being reflective which slows you down a little but allows for a more comprehensive perception and analysis of situations and problems. You do not spend excessive time analyzing since you mostly trust your perceptions.

In all likelihood, you have a tendency to overcommit and cannot understand why others get upset since you operate on a different "time table" than they do. Your organizational abilities are frequently overwhelmed by the stimulation seeking and active nature of your mind as well as by the tendency to create new categories and gloss over details, making categorization and classification almost impossible at times.

To the extent that your career path allows for creativity and abstraction as well as a bit of disorganization, you should find yourself equipped to handle any learning that is required. Your own personal adjustment to your style should come naturally although you are likely to feel frustrated by your own limited discipline and often wonder "Why?"

*****************************************

Ano, would have thot I'd be more organized, oh well...the auditory part is right tho'

Wow, new look for Blogger...

Wai! New chapter of Draco Veritas! Main page here. The epic that made me a HP fan without reading the books, heheh...

Went for MOE interview todae. Almost fried my brain cells because was almost late. A grand total of five questions - sit down seat haven't warm and is over liao - except for a dumb first answer, i think i did average on the other questions. Sincerely hope there is a second round *prays*

Tuesday, June 10

Watched Finding Nemo todae wif my anime club friends. The movie is so "Awww..." I think it is my fav Pixar film now - Monsters' Inc is nice but Finding Nemo really tugs at the heartstings - Nemo is so "Awww..." esp with his lucky fin ("Awww....") Next to Nemo, Dory is my fav fish of the show - her memory flashback sc was Wow! - never knew a fish's memory could be so exciting a plot device! And "Tankhood!" Hahahaha! The whole movie for me was full of cute sweet stuff - i was happy they didnt make the sad mushy part too long - and first time i was so moved by a character/fish having a nervous breakdown...All in all, "Sweet~ dude!"

After the movie went to have sushi! Cheap and nice! And better still - free flow of Coke! Instantly became my fav sushi place! Gonna bring my sis down soon. She'll love it. (Although, suaku that I am, and sushi fan that she is, she could have known of the place long before...) Eating there felt absolutely sinful because I was just gazing at the conveyor belt waiting for some morsel to tempt my taste buds...

Went to Kino at Taka and got tempted by my friends to read Naruto and The Thief with 20,000 Faces. Also saw that Koucha Ouji vol 20 is out - gonna be a sad one judging by the cover - I think it is where Hong Mu Dan finally returns to Tealand. Does not bode well for my fandom of the series, happy-ending addict that I am. And Alice 19th had ended - hmmm, short enuff to to worth considering beause Watase Yuu likes angst and a long angsty series is not my cup of tea.

Saw a cute manga called Hu Tu Tian Shi and gorgeous hunks on the cover of E's (sp?). *evil laugh*

Monday, June 9

wai! back from an over-nighter with friends at Rasa Sentosa - nice pretty beaches and pools. Too bad we had to go cycling instead - but cycling was fun also! Haven't gotten so scared since the Viking. We went to watch the Musical Fountain which was beyong cool, altho' a little commercial and kiddy - but the laser lights and fireballs were so cool! Played cards on the balcony with a wonderful view until 2am. Watched a Chuck Norris series until 2am and turned in. Of course, night owl Ade prowled around until 4 am before sleeping,

The next morning was breakfast (Dee-Eee-Licous muffins!) and finishing up my 12 shots of film. Can finally free my Xellos cosplay photos which have been trapped in there for half a year, heh. Luckily managed to catch the 12 o'clock bus and we were back at Harbor Front.

Know what's the saddest thing? After spending a day and a half on sunny Sentosa, the cabby which drove us home thought we were Japanese cos we were so fair, argh.

Friday, June 6

Am back from Round 2 of the anime chalet - have gotten my greedy little paws on 2 spastic animes and Gravitation (which also has not a few spastic characters)! Will be burning stuff so am off to Sim Lim later. Hopefully have gotten enuff psycho-ing from my friends to finally start learning how to download anime - ade is prime candidate to test e-learning skills on - have trouble even learning icq, harhar...

Thursday, June 5

suffering from sleep deprivation after my first overnite at our club's anime chalet - will be sleeping six hrs at home before i'll be returning to the chalet again for another overnite. Was marathoning Gundam Seed - not bad, nice colours and characters - but it was like Duel which we marathoned in 2001 - i wasn't really interested but was willing to get sucked in. Was half-asleep on the stairs, heheh...

List of stuff i saw (in parts because i was around at weird times)
- Gundam Seed - i think both Kira and that pink-haired psycho are crazy - it's kinda sad - do hope that nice girl comes back soon and cheers him up
- Extended version of LotR!!! - Agent Smith/Elrond jokes all over the place
- Cowboy Bebop movie
- Fruits Basket - it's cool watching it with friends

The really fun part was that everyone was able to meet people who had the same hobbies and a lot of sharing and friendly discussion took place. It's this exact thing we were striving for. Much better response than expected - proabably is the location and the timing of the chalet.

Monday, June 2

omg omg omg! I'm going for the Chuang Yi interview! *screams*

Sunday, June 1

tagged along with a friend of mine yesterday and finally got to see the inside of NAFA - quite interesting listening to them discuss their designs and garments. It's quite exciting seeing a design on paper and then holding the real thing. But the amount of stuff they gotta prepare for their presentation was scary - at least all we had to hand up up was one hardcover book...

was stoning around Bugis Junction today and saw a stand with handphone pouches with a variety of names stitched onto the corners. Was elated to find one with "Adeline" Was depressed upon realising it only came in screaming pink - with silver sprinkles. Geh.

made a quick getaway homeward after that because I soon realised Bugis was invaded by those pastel "therapeutic" head-bobbing solar-powered dolls - apparently they bob their way to a more soothed and energized you...

still no Hana Kimi 20 but W Juliet 13 is out...that officially makes Yami No Matsuei (which stalled at 11) the slowest series I'm collecting...In this vol, horrors!, Ito's bros finally find out Makoto's real identity. And Ito meets Makoto's dad - hah, the old guy's pretty nice after all....methinks the series is winding down soon - but hope it'll continue after they graduate...was sad to know that the W Juliet character book is only in Japanese.
