Streams on Cobblestones

The meandering road of a slightly introverted mind. Normally witty. At turns morbid and cheerful. A little weird. Have fun.

Love the Peace Maker Kurogane opening - it's called "You Gotta Feel" by I dunno by whom...wanna get my hands on the full song, the opening is too short!

wunderful dream of Rukawa Kaede and how he decided that like Anzai-sensei predicted, if he and Sakuragi worked together instead of being at loggerheads, they would be more effective. Coolly speculatively, he surveys the field and observes his opponents who also have tensions in their own teams - turns out he is in a dance competition?! Wha? Remember how I found out I could taste in one of my dream - now turns out I can hear as well - Another Night by the Real McCoy.

Yesterday, had a fun time copying out of a bibliography in Vietnamese - all those squiggles...

Thursday, October 30

With the deadline drawing closer, I was close to settling for a second-rate result on my assignment - but then was motivated to try harder. Why? Because my superior in the course of reassuring me mentioned "the limits of your investigation" and somehow that phrase just made me feel like I was doing a pathetic job. Insufferably arrogant of me yes, but I can't stand having such a phrase attached to work I turn in - so was motivated to rummage through the library's reference collection for two and a half hours after work - and it was lucky I did cause I managed to find a huge chunk of stuff to add to my assignment - not poor quality crap either, but stuff that really fits the criteria, hee! Now that I have my sources, it's just a problem of how much I can type in four days. Oh, that reminds me to trim my fingers nails. The noise I make typing is enuff to embarrass me.

Tuesday, October 28

Finally watched an episode of Peacemaker Kurogane - have decided to follow the Anbu version instead of Lunar.

Gosh the opening looks really promising - and the music too.

Hmmm, that guy with the whisker looks like Dryden from Escaflowne, with the flowing robe and all.

Geh, that white-haired kid sounded like Kenshin...reminds me of that tofu scene...must be the white.

Why that piggy always look so constipated - because Okita carries it around so often, it's absorbing all his negative energy as a swordsman - if Okita wasn't slated to a bishonen in this anime, that would probably be his everyday expression.

A pig that plays fetch, so cute!

Aiyah, Okita sure is pretty geh...wait till the blonde appears.

Have mentioned before, but it's worth mentioning - PMK has lots of yummy yummy guys, ohohoho...

Ahhhh~! They have a Yamazaki-kun in PMK too! *imagines the gossip levels in the Shinsengumi*

Hmm, that Hijitaka Toshizou guy sure reminds me of Saitou...chain-smoking from the very first scene...but he also seems like a Hiko with all that hair...

Gah, all that darkness makes me feel like I'm watching an episode of Buffy or somtehing...

Dunno how the manga is like - but the anime is better than Naruto in one aspect - it shows rather than tells, really captures your attention and draws you into what's happening.

hmmm, i guess a Peace Maker probably is really different from what the Shinsengumi are, considering that Hijitaka possible knew Tetsu's dad and didn't want Tetsu in the Shinsengumi...

*gasp* that HAS TO BE SAITOU in the ending theme. He's the only guy I know who would be shown with a bowl and chopsticks!

PMK is by turns funny and yet also quite serious and dark - almost reminded me of Memorial. But the first episode seems to already hint at Okita's illness.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bought the CCS Syaoran manga - my brain is too frizzled out to remember now - was too tired to seriously read it but it seems like CLAMP is really letting go with their character designs, and haulingh back a few old ones to show off as well. Looks very very nice. Lines thicker yes? And the paper is really good quality - who'da thunk Chuang Yi would be so smart? For sure I'm sticking to this series. But it seems to start out sad though....glad to know Tomoyo's still got her "Ommph!", ohohoho~

Lots of echos in this manga for me - remember the episode in CCS where Kinomoto Fujitaka went to lecture at Tomoeda and Syaoran was so excited by the history of the pyramids? Or how Sakura used to greet Nadeshiko's photograph? Or how in the second movie Syaoran agreed to give up his "most precious feeling" so that the Void card would stop wrecking destruction? Seem like elements of all of that and more got introduced into this series as well. Am dying to find out more about the characters.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today was like a series of images - I keep seeing scenes and remembering them later, like photographs. There's that elderly couple who came out for a jog and wished me a good morning - they seemed happy and healthy. There was this lady who took her poor Pekingese(sp?) doggy out for a walk at Tampinese Interchange. The poor doggy was forever humiliated because she tied the hair on top of its head into a coconut tree style. And every step it too with its stumpy legs, the snowy coconut tree bounced merrily along. Even the rubber band was pink - i do hope that is a girl doggy. There was that Aberdeen ad where Singapore was this lion head from the lion dance suit. There was the nice way the moning light casts the shadows of the palm trees unto the wall of the building. There was this cute baby being carried by his mom to his dad - in the middle of YIH canteen.

All these made me wish I had a digital camera - which led to me wondering if I ever had the chance to, would I echange my eyes for spherical cameras instead - that way I can instantly capture all the interesting images that I see. Eh, sounds like a mad scientist's experiment.

Monday, October 27

Thot I would be missing my cousin's wedding reception this Saturday but this morning I got notice that my off day on alt Saturdays would be changed from 25th Oct to 1 Nov - so it look like I do get to attend! Although at 8.15 am in the morning...that's really early...

Was at Century Square and the moment I entered one of elevators, my eyes alighted on a skinny packet of tissue paper lying innocently in the far corner. Immediately a thought sprang into what passes for my brain: The Case of the Phantom Tissue in the Elevator. Hmmm...

Lucky! Stumbled acoss a small database of biblio of translated poetry from various countries - they have a few anthologies for Burmese, Vietnamese and Cambodian poetry....which of course isn't available in Singapore *sigh*....but at least I got someting to put down in my list so it won't look so pathetic...

Had to read a bit about Indira Gandhi for some assignment I'm doing - felt sad reading the beginnings of her undated will where she seemed to predict her death - it is sad because her words seems to paint her as someone who sees her country so idealistically, she seems so proud of her country - why do people like that get assassinated?

Have been having some dreams - I remember one where my parent's bedroom in my old place sprung a leak - something along the lines of a three-foot hole in the ceiling. And when you peered up through it, you could see the next level - which was the glass walls of an amusement center (all those colourful lights...) and people's feet as they walked by. Weird. Haven't been remembering the rest - been so tired and rushed in the mornings.

Yay! My sis helping me buy a Zip drive from her work place so now I can do my stuff on a Zip disk instead of ten floppies. I just wish I used my cd-burner more so it isn't a white elephant - except nowadays to tired to watch anime...am still downloading though.

Sunday, October 26

pwah, you gotta read Naruto Chp 190 - shocks of shocks! Chouji a bishonen in disguise?! Wow, that biggest surprise so far - am getting to really like this series...so many twists and turns...This chapter has such a sweet scene when Chouji and Shikamaru were kids and how they became best friends. And it seems Chouji has the most beautiful jutsu move so far - it's really pretty and cool! (Although it really doesn't bode well that he lost so much body mass so suddenly. And he had a Uchiba nose too.) And damn, if Shikamaru doesn't look like a little twerp when he was a kid....in the cutest possible way of course.

ok, there's bloody and there's BLOODY. Kill Bill (or at least the first half hour, I won't know about the rest of the movie) was BLOODY x 100. My friends who watched the whole thing told me it is actually very funny and wonderfully-executed, which I'm sure it is - I just wish there wasn't nearly so much blood. Ugh. Do regret missing the animated portion and Lucy Liu but all that blood was just too much for me. Fighting is ok, ugly werewolves is ok, even those metallic tentacle Matrix robots in the trailer was ok....but Kill Bill really ran smack into my threshold. I think I only peeked at like 10 min of the half hour I was in there...then I figured why the hell should I cower in my seat with my eyes closed and my ears blocked (those nasty crunching sounds) for the next one and a half hour? So decided to window-shop around Plaza Sing while waiting for my friends. That Bergamot Body Wash seems to smell really nice, and possibly that Ylang Ylang one too. Did Lush disappear from Plaza Sing? Or perhaps it was never there?

Had to have an emergency buying trip just now so I would have enough slacks to last the next five days. Sad, I know. Now my only problem is the shirts.

Met a friendly but loud taxi-driver when I came home with my mom. My mom and him had a long discussion in Teochew about the old place they used to stay and if they had accquaintances.

Spoilers spoilers for Underworld....

hmm, thot a bit more about the movie - Selene -> moon -> werewolf -> reacts to moon. So we now why that Michael's got the hots for Selene (name-wise that is...). And Selene supposedly reminds Victor of his daughter who fell in love with a werewolf - (reincarnation vibes?).

And with a name like Kraven...don't you feel like, if you ever wrote a book, you'd name one of the really good guys Kraven - and then readers will keep on second-guessing the poor guy because they expect all his actions to be craven? Yah, disliked him most out of all the characters in the movie....even the eugenics-sounding werewolf doctor seemed better....

and Marcus - if there is a sequel - i predict he'll turn up a raging insane ancient - because Selene's a vamp and she was trying and even Victor seen a bit wobbly-headed upon waking up. But this Marcus guy got woken up by the blood of a werewolf - not an ancient vamp - and the stuff he sees from this doctor-werewolf would probably give him lots of anger and ammunition to use against Michael and Selene. Kinda sad about what happened to Lucian - he was a pretty good villan...

Friday, October 24

feergit all my previous whining - nothing and I do mean nothing can be more exhausting, frazzling and downright scary than accompanying my mom to the Robinsons warehouse sale at Expo this morning. Am developing a fear of crowds. Not only was it huge, it was crowded - you couldn't even hide in one corner because every five secs you'd be in someone's way and you'd have to move. I actually got bumped off my feet once - can't imagine what would happen to me if that lady had been deliberately trying to knock me down - adeline would probably be a pancake being scraped of the Expo floor by now.....and the queue, omg, the queue....the Creative warehouse sale's queue was only half compared to this one. But it moved along pretty fast so i was ok. And even though i spent two and a half hours with my mom, we only saw the handbags (what do you need EIGHT-TEN freaking trolleys of handbags for?) and a bit of the jewellery - but the prices were really slashed so much so that even a shopping-idiot like myself was impressed....

then while waiting for friends to watch a movie, I spent a few hours at Bugis looking around (saw a wall of Chicken Soup and got tempted by the 2004 organisers). Then read a looong speech Mao Zedong made about literature and the arts. I fell asleep, haha....but i did finished it ^_^

went to watch Underworld - lots of growling and uber scary (but according to my friends, not really that bloody) - actually it surprised me because i was expecting to be disappointed - but the action was good and the portrayal of the feuding groups quite well-done. But I would watch it for Selene alone, she's coolly gorgeous in this movie - more feminine than Trinity, hehe. They left it pretty opened ended too, so it is more realistic (if you can say that of a vamp/werewolves movie...). Felt the vamps were a bit subdued, as my friend suggested - they snarl and what not, but the werewloves were definitely more flamboyant in their movements.

Maybe I'm really an empty-headed anime-obsessed twit, but there's a reason why I've never dwelt too much into politics, or maths or stuff that tie me too closely to reality. Why bother learning stuff that's gonna change hours later. Why memorise formulas if there are already hundreds of mathematicians who are better than you when they were ten than you'll ever be your entire life? And if real life is bitter enuff, why go read about more sad depressing stuff? Is having the knowledge of such stuff more important than maintaining a happy frame of mind? (Lots of people would probably go - "Duh! Of course!")

Am seriously concerned because, listening to mp3s and watching Naruto 54, and I felt distinctly less amused, less able to be silly. (Though Slam Dunk still works like a charm.) I feel more weighed down nowadays (less able to feel like you're skateboarding on a breeze) - and if teenagers avoid boredom like the plague, I think at the back of my mind, this is the feeling that I've been skirting around for the longest time. This is probably why I never feel mature enough for all sorts of stuff.

Found this interesting blog, Antipixel, belonging to a photographer guy staying in Japan - also linked to other similar blogs....I just like the pictures he takes...

Wednesday, October 22

Received two more assignments early early this morning, with instructions to put the others on hold first. Talk about multi-tasking - it gave my structured steady way of work a real jolt, but I guess that's how real work is. But the assignments themselves are interesting, and from the look of the assignments (which aims to gather Asian literatures) the direction of this initiative is rather exciting. Had to stare at the computer screen for hours on end though. Was brain-dead all the way home. Right now I just wanna Zzzz....

Tuesday, October 21

Am a little numb now - just came back from my interview which turned out to be a job offer which became my first day of work because "Immediately" seems such a nice daring answer to give. Then got sent off to the Central Library posthaste to start my assignments. I don't regret saying that, I think it is the intense need to be something again (since when did bumming at home sound so bad?) Anyways, they let me be an Arts Administrator at CFA - I am terrified I won't be up to the task because everyone else seems so artistically-inclined and I'm the painfully shy commoner-idiot who doesn't sing, paint or write. But everyone's friendly and helpful. My superior is very funny but is strict on working fast, so I'll be working my butt off to make sure I complete my assignments well. It's quite a coincidence - today is also the day CFA and UCC have their monthly Tea Gathering so I got to meet lots of other wonderfully-accomplished people/professionals as well. The coolest thing is that I got my own work station and those felt-cubicle walls where you can pin all sorts of stuff. ^_^

Most importantly - Thank You. Please don't let me screw this up.

====================================================

They've added a whole row of new shops at Tampines Interchange - underneath the MRT - now the walkway is brightly-lit. They have all sorts of stuff - phones, vcds, breads, clothing, a food court even.

====================================================

Nearing home, I saw a sweet sight. A lady on a bicycle rode past me, followed by another bicycle which carried her husband and son. She was laughing because she couldn't brake on time and almost drove into a mud puddle. He was laughing (giggling) at her. As they rode down a narrow walkway which was deeply shadowed by trees, I could still hear them laughing - they seemed untouched by stress or unhappiness (even with all the shadows around them). Just a young married couple, a family, enjoying themselves. I wondered if the little boy would remember such a time, sitting on his dad's bicycle and seeing his mom's back in front of him, and hearing his parents laugh and be silly as they cycled home together.

Sunday, October 19

I'm not a a gamer, but I got drawn into a Resident Evil fic which just threw my mind for a loop or three hundred. In the middle of a story, after a huge battle and a really high body count, a new female POV turns up. She has intriguing abilities and just when I was puzzling about how she fits in, it is revealed that she has amnesia. And all of the sudden, her friend's POV shows her to be a man - a character, presumed dead, who cross-dressed to remind him of his missing twin sister. It's weird - neither he nor his friend noticed his real gender because the author masked it in two ways - amenesia and really convincing drag. And it was so convincingly written, I was like wow. Been a long time since an author sprung such a surprise...either that or my brain-power is dropping, heheh...

W Juliet 14 had the most complete ending I've read - also one of the most romantic *sigh* Mo2 Di4, in contrast, was actually venturing into rather gruesome science experiments - and I thot it was a simple wuxia/supernatural manga. Also strongly reminded by how hot Shingo Mayu's male characters always look - esp her Sakuya stereotypes...unfortunately that is balanced by her slightly brainless heroines, which is all that is stopping me from buying her series...

Wednesday, October 15

heheheh, Naruto 52 is a keeper. Icha Icha Paradise a movie?! Laughed until I couldn't breathe... But the cutest was the chibi Sakuras and Sasukes.

Rained on me this morning when accompanying my mom to the market - came home feeling feverish. But then my mom asked me to peel garlic for her. And voila! Not more fever, swapped for a garlic-sore thumb. Will added peeling garlic to my list for cures for fever. Though understandably, green M&Ms and Coke will ranked higher.

To all my studious anime club friends, here's a link for Tomoyo's Card Captor Sakura video diaries. If you haven't already seen them, they are three short 5 min clips about cute stuff in the anime. Kinda like the Suppi/Kero video at the end of the second movie. Not fantastic quality since they are in real media and the connection really slow - but really fuuny and worth the download. Good luck for your projects and exams!

Tuesday, October 14

kyaa~! Just saw the long-awaited chibi ending for Naruto. Very cute little chibis walking across the screen! Can't say I like the music tho' - it sounded like a video game kinda music. My fav were Naruto, Sasuke and Lee (he came complete with bandaged arm and leg, heheh).

Jiraiya's voice was younger and higher than I expected but it worked - and I think the anime did very well in showing what a ridiculour pervert he is - the cloud scene seems exactly like what Jiraiya would do. I think the rather father-son setting was deliberate - it made me think that that was probably how Jiraiya and Yondaime trained in the past.

Am really looking forward to the Giant Frog scene - because in the manga, the Giant Frog says that the only person who could summon it before Naruto was The Fourth. That means the name in the scroll just before Naruto's is probably Yondaime's real name. In the manga it is just some illegible squiggle - but you can make out that Jiraiya's is the name before that. That scene also made me think about how people referred to themselves in Naruto's time - because Naruto's signature seems much longer than Yondaime's or Jiraiya's, he was probably adding his surname in too. But Yondaime and Jiraiya seem to have signed with just their personal names...yes, I know, too much manga makes adeline a loony.

Have noticed since the Temari/Tenten fight - Naruto has one aspect that I really like in an anime. When it makes any changes and/or additions to the manga version, the changes are usually funny, add to the character or develop the series as a whole. Kinda like the Card Captor Sakura series - adding twenty extra cards, more episodes but still maintaining the overall plot development.

Oh, and Tooya from Ayashi no Ceres? Right~ up there with Squall Leonhart, Tsuzuki Asato and Rukawa Kaede. Halter-top and collar *droolz* If only he doesn't wander around in a Neo-daze all the time...

Hummph, figures...

The adult world is pretty irrelevant to me. Whether
I'm off on my bicycle (or pony) exploring, lost

adventure and wonder and other stuff adults
don't understand.

Just read a most amusing Tezuka/Fuji PoT fic by Aishuu. Checked out some of the screencaps (dun they both seem to have the same hair-style?), but luckily I didn't get dragged down into the fandom (yet.) Maybe cause the very first PoT characters I saw were Kikumaru and Syuuichiro and...and their hair...left a deep impression on me. Heh. But seems like an anime I would go for because it focus on character development.

yay! 117 writers and have just handed up the thing *sigh of relief* Felt like it was thesis-time again as I was printing stuff in the early hours of the morning....right down to the insane number of mis-printed pages which had to be re-printed. Had a nice cover for the thing as well and I was thinking, shucks it looks even better than my thesis.

Sunday, October 12

One of the more inspiring blog entries I've read.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the recent Naruto, looks like Chouji is in trouble. He's had too many "Yeah-Shikamaru-and-I-are-the-best-buds-in-the-world!" moments to make it through the fight with that fatso Sound nin. Plus didn't he already say that whatever Shikamaru decides is best - in deciding how to split up the group, Shikamaru was clearly unwilling to leave Chouji behind probably because he felt Chouji wasn't good enuff to handle the bad guy on his own. Hmm, I dunno...Lee so far is the worst off among the Konoha-nin, (excluding those supporting supporting characters) but none of the rookies from Konoha actually croaked. Wonder how the author's gonna deal with this...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saw pics of Orlando Bloom in a new movie about the ancient city of Troy. Dark eyes, curly Greek-god hair, standing next to a gorgeous lady (but looks like Helen's got some serious competition) - check it out~ man! But then saw him on a horse and nearly bust my sides laughing. I mean, I'm sure the movie will turn out to be great, but from afar, it looked like a suit of armour perched on a horse with skinny arms and legs sticking out. *get defenestrated by Bloom fangirls*

Yay, am feeling sleepy at a decent hour at last, in contrast to say 4am in the morning.

Yes! Saw Lawful Drug Vol 3 at Kino todae! It's in Jap but the Chinese version should be coming along soon, Kazahaya in not one but two dresses, ohohoho~ Also saw Koucha Ouji 21 - also in Jap but yay all the same.

Matrix Reloaded vcds and dvd out - looks v. spiffy indeed. But was also tempted by Boys Be. *sigh*

So, went to Kino and Borders today to check out the poets, playwrights and novelists. 120 may be in sight, but not 150 by a long shot.

Also saw lots of neat Moomin Valley stuff - calendars and organizers. Have a soft spot for Snufkin.

Reason #1034 Why You Must Always Listen to Your Momee
- Because when she tells you that going to the school library while suffering from severe lack of sleep will result in you leaving something behind, don't go in one ear and out the next, it bloody well WILL happen. (Lucky I remembered what shelf I was last at. But all that adrenaline sure woke me up.)

Wandered around the Central Library today like a bewildered year-one - went down to third floor and "Eh? Where did all the shelves go?" Turned out they shifted the Main Shelves up to fourth floor and converted the third floor into a new mass study area (the tables are all long rows of light varnish-smelling wood), with those spiffy personal study carrels, pwah! all so new. Though I do prefer the more private study cubicles they had.

Am happy because have confirmed that yes, even in the books themselves, the authors birthdays are nowhere to be found. Could be a huge waste of time or a necessary process, depending on your point of view. Am unhappy beause the section was so huge that there's a large chance I won't have enuff time to go through them all, so a manual search is kinda impossible. Was hopeing for something like twenty new authors if I visited the library but I came away with a measly four. *sigh*

Am ecstatic because I found this WUNDERFUL WUNDERFUL calligraphy book going for just three dollars! It has 26 life-size plates of various works over the centuries and a write-up which referred to the plates. Was a bit disappointed that a Book of Kells sample wasn't inside, but the rest made up for it. ^____^

Bad dream, baad baaad dream - met some old friends (some expected, while the appearance of others make me wonder what the hell I was dreaming/thinking.) Was highly amused when my unexpected friend showed me how fold a tray-like metal barbercue pit (compete with metal grate and turkey skewer) into a neat box. Then there as a bumbling police-man who wanted to look for a police-station in a place which is a combinatioin of my sec school backyard, and the corridor that leads behind Bugis KFC to Parco (you know, that quiet road you take to get from Sim Lim to Bugis?), except in my dream he was looking for one of those police stations you would find in the 1910s Singapore. There was also a bustop for bus No. 145 I think - anyone knows where that leads? I wasn't a nice person in this dream, which is what I disliked most - sometimes you feel you can control dream stuff but sometimes you can't and you start wondering if underneath, you are really so cold.

That aside, am gonna eat an orange, and get some work done. Was so tired yesterday, I just went straight to sleep after arriving home. If I can do a search before going, hopefully today won't be as fruitless as the last.

I've seen my friends do this but haven't had reason to till today. Presenting, the theme song for my thesis which was on repeat for the longest time. For when everything seems to be falling apart (theory, methodology, bibliography, personally, grammatically) sometimes all you can do is pray real hard and hope.

You by Switchfoot

There's always something
In the way
There's always something
Getting through
But it's not me
it's You

Sometime's ignorance
Rings true
But hope is not in
What I know
Not in me
It's in You

It's all I know

And I find peace
When I'm confused
I find hope when
I'm let down
Not in me
But in You

I hope to lose myself
For good
I hope to find it in the end
Not in me
It's You
It's all I know

Quite excited when I got a hit on teoma.com for "play" + "set in" + "China" - - - upon closer reading, it turned out to be Fushigi Yuugi (The Mysterious Play).

Read a cute HikaGo fic - Akira with a hang-ups over bottled water, hahah. - “Of course it does. There’s artesian water, drinking water, mineral water, purified water, sparkling water, spring water, well water...”

Alll~righty-then - 98. Let's leave it at that and hope I can find more tomorrow. Better go sleep now or the librarians will find a lump of adeline snoozing in the central library...

yay! 94! I'm hoping to at least find 150, but the going has been slow these two days. It's tough to find poetry and plays that fit the criteria online (because the hits are usually movies and such) - guess i'll have to go to the school library and do some old fashion legwork...must remember to bring sweater.

I like working at night - its so peaceful - sometimes I'd recall just the edge of some fondly-remembered smells. A whiff or two, then they disappear because they were never there.

Gonna go eat an orange.

"We're not adults, we're actors."

Summary borowed from www.4wall.com:

OH, ROMEO
Ephraim Kishon, translated by Lucienne Hill : Comedy 2M 1F Interior set

30 years after Romeo and Juliet fail to commit suicide, we find them squabbling together in this ingenious farce with music. Original score available on request from the rights holders. 'The early romantic situation has now developed, or descended, to the usual married life of any ordinary mortals with disagreements, rows and a problem daughter. In the middle of one of these rows, Will Shakespeare, their creator, arrives on the scene. He is not a ghost, apparently, and often pays them a visit. They are well aware of who he is and blame the deterioration of their relationship on him for not having given them a happier ending. He tries to appease them in an inferior blank verse and quotations from other plays, some of which impress them. The use of well-known quotes and characters make for amusing theatre and not even the most ardent Shakespeare scholar could object to the manner of their use.' Plays of 1984/5.

whoohoo! I broke 80! Altho' i do wish I have more than a lousy 14 poets and 10 dramatists on my list...hopefully will be able to scrounge for more then I hit the school library...tomorrow? Or maybe today? cos the club's screening is on and I could get my Fruba back on the way...except, I probably won't be able to stay wake till then...

Have found this wunderful website which had loads of summaries of plays from A-Z. Now if only I manage to keep my eyeballs by the time I'm done reading...

Thursday, October 9

*sigh* Now I know why I didn't go into history despite having a grand ole time in JC. Although my eyeballs feel like falling out, I do enjoy chasing down the bios and histories of various authors and poets. They all seem to have such interesting lives. Then you read about one whom you wish you'd met (sorta), because she seems to have been so many places and done so many things. Then you read the next googled hyperlink and realise she passed away a few years ago. In a way, this project is making me read many lifetimes, doncha tink?

*sigh* What can be better than having a nice early delicious-smelling breakfast (after a night of gruelling reading), only to see multiple images of human brains getting dissected on the TV? They weren't bloody or anything, just...meaty and slightly wobbly.

yay! 57 authors and 3 dramatists so far. Not a big figure but not a small one either. Am having big trouble finding plays/poems by expatriate playwrights (i.e. non-native to China) who have set their works in China. All my search routes seem to lead nowhere..unless I read all 16,000 possible books on plays, ugh....

More Naruto nonsense I've been thinking of - - - > family businesses

We know that Ino's family runs a flower shop, and Shikamaru's family raises deer. Ever thought about what the other characters' families do for a living? I mean, the whole Hidden Village can't be ninjas, and the different characters do seem to do other stuff in their spare time. So, here are some speculations:

We know Jiraiya's an...author. He's a full-time pervert too, by his own admission.

Tsunade's a healer and a rather sad professional gambler. (Being Hokage also seems to be their family business.)

Orochimaru probaby decided fulfil his childhood ambition to be a mad scientist. And I'm sure he has a snake somewhere in his family tree. *shudder*

Sasuke's ancestors may have sold fans before.

Iruka's a teacher now but maybe his family trained dolphins or something.

And I just know Shino's family makes the best sunglasses this side of Fire Country. They've have gone into partnership with Kiba's family to sell parkas.

But Kiba's family really specialises in hunting dogs with whom they travel all over Fire country. They've also cornered the Konoha market in the manufacture of soldier pills.

Kakashi's forefathers were farmers. In fact, he may be next-door neighbours to Kiba's family, leading to an infatuation with cute doggies. Where else would he find such a giant man-sized bulldog?

And it obvious that Kakashi's best friend (Obito-san?)'s family were scuba-divers.

The Hyuga - remember that pretty big dojo where Hinata's dad is busy putting her down to Kurenai? Maybe the family uses their reputation to teach martial arts? And going by Hinata's medicinal skills, probably herbalists as well. Oh, let's not forget tatooists (See: Neji's forehead)

Asuma's family sells cigarettes and Kurenai's family sold bandages (which may be very profitable, considering how popular they are in ninja fashion wear.)

Chouji's family is probably into gourmet foods.

I keep thinking the Umazaki family didn't originate from Fire Country, given their colouring. And (if the fanarts are to be believed) they are probably singers, with that trend being strongest in The Fourth, who loved karaoke-ing. And I strongly suspect that if Naruto didn't want to be a ninja, he would probably apprentice with the Ichiraku ramen chef.

have finally decided to switch on the lights so I can see the char kway tiao I am eating...

The latest HanaKimi! - wouldn't have expected Himejima (of all people) to be so agitated about the whole thing - thought he was supposed to be some romantic soul. I was thinking that Tennouji would be the one to kick up a fuss because of his strict thinking...was wondering about what would happen if Sano said he knew that she didn't know that he knew (heheh, always get a kick from doing that) - maybe Mizuki would get mad or something but the whole revelations scene seem to have gone over pretty smoothly. Yay! Was a bit worried Nanba would be unhappy about the matter but it seems he is okay with it too. Can't wait for the various dorm heads' reactions when they get around to trying to hide the truth fom the rest of the student population.

Have gotten twenty over authors for the evaluation project so far - I got that thesis feeling again, you know. That numb feeling only possible from a lack of sleep, continuous scanning of the computer screen for the relevant terms, and constant clicking in the cyber-chase to hunt down authors' birthdays. Oh wait! I feel like I'm doing my bibliography again!.....*shiver*

But on the bright side, have seen some pretty interesting novels - except I would probably be too lazy to seriously read them. I got a Kazuo Ishiguro for a few years and I oni read the first few chapters...

Wow, the evaluation project turned out to be a week-long project to compile a list of expatriate authors who have used China as a setting in their works of drama, fiction or poetry. Am fairly excited planning how to go about this project. Tentatively aiming at finding twenty authors a day. The other candidates both seem to be much more well-versed in the literary area that me, and they seem so smart...

Was all set to chiong on down to KKnM today to ogle the cute HanaKimi egg clock they had. Even dug up the HanaKimi character book and looked at the goods section. They I realised the clock wasn't all that good looking. I mean, the picture in the clock is cute, the overall the clock does look a lot like the one in the manga but...anyways it has re-awaken my desire to make a clock with interchangeable (anime) backgrounds, heheh. Except I dunno if I really want to go through the trouble to make one...maybe I oughta start a things-I-wanna-do list?

Have found cure for lack of sleep - wonton noodles with chilli - my dad ordered, and every bite tasted like lava. I think I killed a few million taste buds...

Am currently interested in that 1986 movie Labyrinth, though when I first read the summary months ago, I thot it was plain corny because while Jennifer Connelly was beautiful, David Bowie looked ancient and his hair was huge! Though there is a pretty strong (unimaginative) trend in the fics I've seen on fanfiction.net, the author of the Clan Malfoy series seems to have started a Labyrinth fic which is quite fascinating. Seems the Labyrinth concept is good after all.

Had a dream just now. It was my graduation ceremony again - it seems we were supposed to attend multiple ceremonies to fill in the empty spaces. But I forgot all my stuff and I was just wearing a dusty tattered dress. So had to rush home, during which got news that some japanese bigwig who was at the ceremony wanted to watch Naruto, and since my friend was already at the ceremony, could I bring my set of Naruto instead. I was like, okay - but my home turned out to be at Bedok Reservior with a long lonely stretch of road. There was another scene of my dream which was angry and emotional, couldn't quite remember what it was but I think it was kinda gross too.

Was watching the Temari Vs Tenten fight last night - realised Temari so has the ability to the fearsome dowager type.

Got a evaluation to attend on Monday - hopefully I dun screw it up. I took a psychometric test while I was in JC which said I might be suitable for such a job - but that was years ago (I'm probably different now) and I've never seriously considered such a job. Hmm, I wonder.

Thursday, October 2

Went to watch Once Upon A Time in Mexico. Like the music, acting, script, romantic guitar music, and the undertone of the ridiculous. Hated the gore very very much - luckily my well-crafted instinct at avoiding the gory saved me from many a blood-dripping scene, except the kneecaps scene which was too sudden to avoid. There was even a cruching sound. Can you say yuk?

And yes! Johnny Depp CAN DO COOL even while missing eyeballs. The whole thing seemed like a moral tale - the wronged gets avenged, the bad guys all kick the bucket, the good guys get the dough. Like the way the film and Depp's character seemed to laugh at the eye-patch guy, he got a smilar punishment in the end. But I dun regret watching it (okay, maybe just the gory parts) because I got to hear Depp say "Savvy?" again!!! My inner fangirl had a heart attack and I almost fell out of my chair. And I got to see Banderas' Snape hair - it is really really the same hairstyle, I slytherin you not.

Talking about Snape, if Naruto had a Snape character, I nominate Hayate The-Coughing-Jounin Gekkou. My weeks of cough have developed me a certain affinity with the guy...

============================================

Yet another psychometric test today - easier than the ones I've had before. Also got hit (as at all essay tests) with the realisation that I am a one bloody long-winded person. Summarizing is tough for me - I like comprehensive textbooks, bullet-points of details and mind-maps. The people there are very nice, all smiles. And the lady supervising me is very friendly so that did help my nerves a lot. Nothing like a good essay to get the adrenaline running. I think that's why I managed to survive till five, cause I woke up late this morning and only had four chocolate digestive biscuits for breakfast. Sad.

Am most annoyed with my internal clock - I think I spoilt it. It doesn't matter that I not sleep for more than 24 hrs so that I would get up at the right time. It seems the moment it hits the A.M, arise would Adeline the Insidious Introverted Insomniac Owl, with eyes bright like marbles, unable to get to sleep. Pathetic. *kicks clock*
