Streams on Cobblestones

The meandering road of a slightly introverted mind. Normally witty. At turns morbid and cheerful. A little weird. Have fun.

Laughed so much watching Shrek 2 I nearly cried...definitely buying the vcd or dvd....great de-stresser...and to think I nearly ended up watching The Day After Tomorrow.

Tried karaoke today...interesting but not my thing unfortunately. Liked watching all the chinese mtvs though. The mtvs all look very slick. Nice food though...ebi fry meal....before the movie bought some sushi as well...OD-ed on popcorn though, ugh.

Finally got to wear my maroon holey pullover. Have decided I like long shirts.

Tsubabsa 5 - well CLAMP sure know how to pull one over us, huh? I was quite startled by the blind-in-one-eye thing. The first thing that came to mind (in combination with Touya saying that Syaoran didn't quite fit in) was that Syaoran lost his eye together with his memories/power - he's got to be a native of some special land and Kinomoto Fujitaka saved him or something...

Troy Troy Troy - what to say. Well, if you loved the original story, stay away. Because as droolworthy as Achilles and Hector are, I strongly feel the cutting back of the gods's interventions in the story really changed what could have been a very interesting movie. While I appreciate how the producers are trying to pit man again man rather than man against god or good against evil, Troy without the gods led to major change in plotline, character depictions and the whole feel of the story (which was way too fast).

Too fast - the movie played out in bits rather than giving a feeling of long time passing. The almost-decade-long seige of Troy, the greatest war in history, felt like a skirmish that ended three weeks after the Greeks spent a day cutting through the tiny patch of water called the Aegean Sea.

Armies - hmmm, well, it is a little hard to carry off an impressive-looking army after LotR.

Achilles - seemed a bit more passive than I expected. Was seriously expecting much more hubris and less angst. Don't they call each other 'Brother' a whole lot? - by that it gives a believable feel that Achilles does what he wants. Hot, of course, but like Briseis voiced, I was a little disappointed that he wasn't a dumb brute.

Briseis - yay! One of the more stronger female characters in the movie. I know the evil Aggie didn't die originally, but she sure gave the audience a satisfying end to the movie. Still don't get - why couldn't the two most level-headed (when their cousins aren't being killed) characters in the show don't get a happy ending, when Paris (what part of "No!" don't you understand?!) and Helen (a little lacklustre) get to escape? Just watch for the fanfics trying to change Homer's epic. Wonder which way he will spin, heh.

Loved the scene of Hector and his wife and child. Did you see those columns? It had a nice open-air feel to the place. Eric Bana, drool drool drool....figured he would marry an intelligent wife. They are my second fav couple in the movie ^_^

My first thought upon seeing Priam was that he looked really good. Not hot but I bet women around the world would die to have his facial bones...his eyes did very well to carry off a sense of blind faith.

Pwah~ long time no type. Everyday seems jam-packed with things to do and usually ends around 7pm. Feel that I am not rooted and firm - too affected by what others say that I cant make effectve decisions and efficient plans. The chain of command and areas of responsibility are quite blurred for me that I panic when things go wrong, unsure whether the responsibility is mine or not. It is really starting to screw up my weekends and after-hours. Need more mind control that's what.

The other day saw a grinning face in the sky, winking at me. It had a slim smile, like an orange peel after you had eaten the pulp. The eye was a gleaming silver star. The face seemed to be tilted to one side, since the moon always leans back against a tree when it is waxing and waning. Then the reflection of a street light bounced off the glass in front of my face and sly close-lipped smile became a bright toothy smile. The welcome stayed for a while, then the bus moved off and the Cheese!-y smile flew away.

The other day, saw a happy father attempting to snap a picture of his toddler son's increadible flexibility - i.e. putting his foot in his mouth. Looking that the cute scene made me wince a little as I could feel my hips popping if I ever tried that.

So busy last week and will be even busier this week. It has gotten to a stage where I could induce a panic attack just by contemplating the coming week.

Another mundo weird dream. Long and adventurous, with throwing knives executing U-turns and shrivelled up pale vampire, Johnny Depp with beard, some place in Eastern Germany, water fountains and a Mercedes crashing into a hole in the wall. Dashing up huge steps lit by low firelights and stopped by the typical iron gate crashing down, ducking into the typical side-alley. Running up a staircase which stops in mid-air, having a life and death struggle at the very top. The POV is supposed to be Shikamaru's daughter. (i.e. IQ of 1000+). Writing captions and thinking I can't finish writing them in time, argghhhh!!!

Got a nice baggie today - deep blue with an adjustable strap and nice pockets to keep small stuff. The strap doesn't shorten as much as I'd like, so I can't carry it the way I've been used to, but if I lengthen it, it makes a pretty nice sling bag. Plus it is big enough to stuff a whole office file in it, without sticking out too much...Only thing is that the plastic grey and deep blue doesn't go with my usual work clothes but oh well, can't have everything. The material feels very nice though....and it matches with my CD-player, heh.

Have gotten Bryce-inclined again. Ta!

Sunday, May 9

Watched Van Helsing today - Pepsi commercial! - Dracula sure cut a fiiiine~ figure didn't he? Then got really ugly as a bat and all, but that's to be expected. There seems to be something about how the Bride-Harpies gave up their female-ness in becoming vamps, despite looking gorgeous in their human forms. And aargh! the innuendos are hurting my head! Anyone anticipating a Van Helsing II where we get to know more about his past? The part that made me sit up was the historical stuff anyway. And Igor - that irritating feller just kept reminding me of someone until it finally clicked! He's just like Benny from The Mummy! Altho' the accents, ummm....I wanna criticise them, but how would I know what a real Romanian accent sounds like? Talking about Romanian accents, also caught the undercover CNN special on child prostitution in Romania, young males especially. Some of the people on it just makes you wanna crack some heads, you know. And the expressions on the faces of those teenager seems so.....somberly matter-of-fact.

Then came home and watched Spy Game with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. Liked the latter for his looks (how many guy can carry off those blond locks like Pitt?) but loved the former for his evil cagey brain and his steely composure. Right up there with Sean Connery and that American Commander guy in the Red October. Of cos, the movie makes me look forward to Troy, heh. Saw the ad for it in the cinema and the main premise of the story is amazingly simply. A whole lot of people want to conquer a city and the whole lot of people in the city are fighting to prevent it.

Pwah, talk about thorn in your flesh. Walked around with a splinter in my hand (the right one, dammit) for a day and a half before I finally got it out by simply having a bath, watching the skin split and lifting it out with a pair of tweezers. Unfortunately that was after I got out the torture implements last night - small scissors, tweezers, safety pin, razor blade, you name it.

Installed my snazzy Google bar yesterday and just watched the blocked-ads number rising. Is it normal to have it jump from 24 to 58 in just 20 minutes? *gets nervous* I'm getting twitchy because while the ads get blocked, my current IE window gets deselected. Ugh...

Explored the wonders of transferring files between a Mac and a PC. Damn. Seems like the files gets passed fine if they are in .rtf and are transferred using a PC-formatted diskette. But zap it straight from a Mac to a PC via email, especially carrying a funny extension like .rtf.tk, then you lose all your nice formatting when you convert your file. However, if you manage to get your hands on a Mac (perhaps a nice white iBook that a ComCen staff just happens to have, heh) then you could access your email from the Mac, rename the file extension properly and re-send it to yourself via email and finally have it open nicely on a PC. Phew!

Saw a rather cute sight of a little boy anxiously waiting for his mom just outside the female toilet at Tampines Mall. He'd look up at every lady that entered or exited with a combination of worry and embarrassment.

Bags are like shoes. Never a nice one around when you finally decide to buy one. My old green totebag is due for a replacement. I know this because Friday I thought I had forgotten my handphone, when in fact it was inside my bag all along - as in inside the bag. The inner compartment had such a big hole that my handphone fell through it! Only realise I had my phone all along when I felt the buttons through the cloth. *sigh*

Heh, it stopped, the rising our of blocked pop-up-ads that it. Dunno to be happy or worried.

Thursday, May 6

Don't be surprised if the next time you see me I am a little stoned. Just feelin' a little swamped lately. I think I need better time management and organisation.

Today was long, stressful and a little bad. But on the other hand, it was also educational, funny, lucky and motivational. A little bad because I screwed up a little and had so many things to do I couldn't see straight. Educational because I learnt stuff. Lucky/happy because the colleague I thot was unhappy with me seem pretty okay with me now. Funny because I attended this week's writing course class and as usual, it was laughter therapy for me. Motivational because the class was all about how to avoid the psychological pitfalls of writing (which in most cases, is applicable to everyday life as well). The weirdest moment was when the teacher held up a book "He who makes the most mistakes wins" - suddenly the entire class was geared at lifting me out of my funk. It helped too, because the teacher gave us till next week to do that 1000-1500 word assignment. He said, just do the worst possible writing you can - the important part is the process, not the results. So while I had skipped doing it yesterday, now I feel all geared towards writing it. Just let me have some sleep first *yaaaaawn*

Saw a nice sky tonight, a dull silver ribbon lying next to a the luminous pearl in the sky. Tried to be more imaginative but my brain is too sleepy. Nite!

Saturday, May 1

Come to know something which added to the good effect of my friend's advice and decided to not be such a whiny.

On the other hand, copped this from kateriya's, heheh....

The realistic conversations part yup, sometimes I can remember the words - but lately I'm so tired when I wake up that I dun have the effort to recall. Dreams about sex....not nearly enuff, damned tests always misleading people, heheh....Feel a bit sad that my dreams dun get to come true - some of them are really quite exciting and beautiful...and forevar puzzling the heck out of me....*listening to the soaring chorals of Ah My Goddess's Cora di Dea* Revelation-feeling swamping me, arggh!!!

Got some advice from a friend who advised me not use a strong word - although in everyday context it is okay but at the workplace it could get taken the wrong way. And that it is ok to be wrong. It has comforted me greatly. Hope next week will be better. Have resolved to be so confident and happy they'll think I found the fourth Slayers anime season or something....
